Obituary for Robert "Gene" Craft Jr.

Robert "Gene" Craft Jr.
Robert Eugene Craft, Jr. “Gene”, 70, passed away on Thursday, April 26th, 2018 in Chesapeake, VA surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 6th, 1947 in Anderson, SC, he was the son of Robert Sr. and Bernice Craft, both deceased. Gene worked as a Director of IT for Huntsman Chemical and also worked for Home Depot.

Gene was the “life of the room” and brought humor into everything. Through jokes and stories he would tell, or through the “concerts” he would put on during his karaoke performances, his ultimate goal was to make people laugh and smile. In his free time Gene liked fishing, playing golf, fixing things, anything to do with the Civil War, and watching NCIS: Los Angeles. His greatest joys in life, however, were his family, helping others, and his snacks.

He also had an immense love for music. You could find him listening to anything from The Temptations to New Kids On The Block, or Kenny Loggins to country. If it had a good beat, Gene would listen. Coming from a musical family, Gene learned to play the drums. He loved the works of Sandy Nelson and idolized his music.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jackie; his children: Stephanie (Brian) of Chesapeake, VA, Jenifer (Jeremy) of Jacksonville, FL, Michael of Chesapeake, VA, and Kristie (Steve) of Chesapeake, VA; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Rene of Virginia Beach, VA, and Cynthia of Virginia Beach, VA; 2 very special friends: Rita Ryder of Greenbackville, VA, and Shannon Rogers of Virginia Beach, VA; and 2 nieces, a nephew, and other close family members and friends.

A private memorial service will be held by the family.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in Gene’s name.
