Obituary for June Cleary (Poole)

June Estelle Cleary
Feb. 12, 1934- July 8, 2018

June Estelle Cleary, 84, died peacefully at the Sentara Regional Medical Center in Williamsburg, VA on July 8, 2018 after a period of declining health.

June was born on February 12, 1934 to William and Jessie Hilton Poole in Montgomery County, Maryland. She had one child, Sherry Lee Miller Boardwine, who passed away in 1992.

June married the love of her life, Robert E. Cleary, on April 28, 1976 in Fairfax, Virginia. Mrs. Cleary remained steadfastly committed to her husband of 41 years and was deeply saddened when he passed away earlier this year. Robert E. Cleary was the 10th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps and June was incredibly proud of his many years of distinguished military service. Ever the model of sophistication and grace, June loved to travel with her husband to his many appointments around the world, attending military and political events while supporting the brave men and women serving in the United States Marine Corps.

June is survived by one sister; Shirley Poole Smith of Maryland, her step-children; Michael Cleary (Karen) of Colorado, Mary Cooper (Dick) of Virginia, and Cheryl Cleary (Al) of Connecticut.
In addition, she is survived by her grandson, Christopher Boardwine (Amy) of North Carolina. Also surviving are her nieces, Jade Soltani (Amir) of Virginia and Lisa Smith Speicher of North Carolina. She leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren including Sean, Ryan, Tyler, Katie, Jacquelyn, Aimee (Justin), Darci (Matt), Angie (Troy), and Robin (William), Justin, and Emma.

The family would like to thank everyone that has helped and prayed over June during these past few months and also pass along a special word of thanks to all of the staff at Greenfield Senior Assisted Living of Williamsburg and Sentara Regional Medical Center in Williamsburg.

A memorial service will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Virginia Beach at 10:30am on Saturday, July 21, 2018.

June was well known for her love of animals, especially the many cats and dogs she cared for over the course of her lifetime.
