Obituary for Michael Marshburn

Michael E. Marshburn, 69, passed away on Wednesday, September 26th, 2018 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was born on June 19th, 1949 in North Carolina to Dewitt and Peggy Marshburn. Michael retired from the United States Coast Guard after 29 years of service. During his service to his country Michael and Mary were stationed in Savanah, Georgia, where Michael and Mary got married and where Maureen was born; Astoria, Oregon, where Megan was born; Boston, Massachusetts; Point Reyes, California, which is the duty station where Shannon was born; Corpus Christi, Texas; Kodiak Island, Alaska and St. Louis, Missouri. After Missouri, he retired while being stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Michael retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CWO3) in the communication field.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary; daughters, Maureen, Megan and Shannon; grandchildren, Caleb, Darren and Shelby; sister, Lynn and Patsy

He was preceded in death by his parents Dewitt and Peggy.

Michael enjoyed life. Each day he lived it to the fullest. From bowling to fishing or traveling with Mary. Besides numerous cruises and many places state side, they have been to Egypt, Greece, Turkey and Crete. He also loved his Harley. Mary and Michael took a motorcycle ride across North Dakota and ended up landing in North Carolina. Going for a ride at dusk with the sunset on the horizon. He loved his second amendment and was very patriotic. He loved the quote “God, Country and Family”, and that’s the way he lived his life. If the Braves or Cubs games were not playing you would hear some Eric Clapton or 60’s and 70’s Rock & Roll.

The family will not be holding a memorial ceremony at this time.

Please share a memory with the family via the Condolences & Tributes tab.

Thank you, CWO3 Marshburn, for your service to our country. Fairwinds & Following Seas
