Mitchell A. Vickers, age 58, died April 2, 2019. Mitch was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 18, 1960, and the first child of Jim and Eloise Vickers. He is survived by his mother; his wife, Barbara; three children, Larry, Joshua, and Leigh Anne; four grandchildren; and his brother, Todd.

Mitch was seven years old when the family moved to Virginia Beach. He graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1978 and attended Virginia Tech. In 1983, he entered the apprentice program at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He worked at Naval Sea Systems Command as an Industrial Engineer Specialist. His job required travel to several states including Hawaii, Spain, South Korea, and Taiwan.

Mitch and Barbara enjoyed camping and boating with their children as they grew up. Both of them continued to enjoy camping and especially going to NASCAR with their travel trailer in tow. Mitch took great joy in many outdoor activities. He loved to ski in winter and water ski in summer. He also loved to fish, He thoroughly enjoyed the simple pleasure of walking on the beach with Barbara. They delighted in their vacations, but three stand out - Grand Canyon, Hawaii, and Germany.

Mitch was an avid reader, with a brain that absorbed a wide range of information. He had the knowledge and skilled hands to fix almost anything. His passing leaves a tremendous void and hurt in the lives of his family and friends. He was loved much and will be missed.

A memorial service for Mitch will be held at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 11:00 am. A reception will follow. Please share memories with the family by clicking the "Memory Wall" tab.

It’s been about 10 years since I first started working on projects with PESO and came into contact with Mitch. How can you be consistently professional and also fun to be with at the same time? Well Mitch knew how and he was one of the guys you could talk to about anything to do with equipment of any type. If you’re looking down on us buddy remember “don’t touch the wire”. Prayers of thanks to have known him and for peace and comfort to the family and closest friends.

I worked with Mitch in Shop 31, section 400 at NNSY for probably at least 20+ years. I always would have to remind him to slow down when he was explaining anything that had to do with math equations as he had it in his head but would go a little to fast for the average person to understand. He was always there to help and lend a hand when needed. It was very upsetting to find out about his passing as he was a good friend and fellow machinist. He will be missed by many. Please accept my condolences and it is with great sympathy to lose such a great person.

Mitch has been mentoring me for the last 8 years from 3000 miles away. He was so knowledgeable, patient most of the time, and willing to help me learn. I especially enjoyed having a cold one with Mitch when our paths would cross. Thoughts and Prayers to the Vickers Family. Mitch will be missed.

Mitch was a great guy to work with. Many times, while he worked in the machine shop, I'd bring him concepts of something I was trying to get made for one of the other production shops and he had the talent to determine how it should be manufactured. He was one of those "go-to" people who you could always count on to get you going in the right direction.
