Sherry Mims, 47, passed away suddenly March 12th, 2020.

Sherry was born February 6th, 1973 to Phyllis A. Mims-Baldwin and James D. Mims in Anniston, AL. Sherry’s life was anything from perfect. She suffered from Bi-Polar Depression, a disease she struggled with throughout her life. While she was unable to overcome the tremendous burden this disease placed on her, she was a fierce and persistent fighter who lived each day as fully as she could. Even though her life was troubled, she was an artistic, fun loving and outgoing person who never met a stranger. Sherry will always be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish her memory is: son, Kyler Reyes Benitez; daughter, Ava Giselle Bergren; mother, Phyllis A. Baldwin; father, James D. Mims; granddaughter, Leia Benitez; sister, Donna Morris; brother, Kevin Mims and numerous extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to NAMI Coastal Virginia in honor of Sherry. Please share your condolences with the family at

As I reflect on a memory to share, my mind is flooded with so many life experiences with Sherry. She lived with me off and on over the past 9 years. During those times, we went through all phases of a relationship. Sherry did not hold back her feelings and thoughts. Sometimes she would deliver them in letters and little notes you would find around the house. I would come home to find wild flowers she had picked and made arrangements throughout the house, this was one of her signature moves. It's hard to share one or 2 memories about her because her personality was as intense as it was mellow. 3 fondest memories I choose to share is the intensity of love for her children and her undying desire to be with them. I remember her fighting so hard to spend time with them and it was quality time when she did. I saw the sacrifices she made to keep them safe. Her heart for all her immediate family was huge even through any differences they had. I will never forget her pulling me up out of my self pity and making me go dancing with her. I can't describe the fun we had but I can tell you Sherry kicked off her shoes, hit the dance floor and never left it till time to go. She danced as if it felt so good to her and no need to have a dance partner or try to impress anyone around her. She definitely pulled me out of my sadness. The last memory I want to share is something I will never forget. She text me one night because she was a little down. We decided to go to God's Word and we shared the entire Chapter if Psalm 91. Again, words can't describe the treasures that came from that conversation. It was long, fulfilling and inspiring. It became one of our memorable moments and it assured me her faith in God which comforts me now, knowing where she sits. My condolences to every member of her immediate family, extended family, and closest friends. I know a glimpse of the loss you suffer and hope you are comforted by sharing memories and knowing she sits in Heavenly places at the dinner table of the Lamb.
