Obituary

Manley E. Roache, Jr, 75, passed away peacefully August 5, 2020 in the comfort of his home.

“Buzzy’ as he was affectionately known by family and friends was born December 5th, 1944 to Manley and Myrtle Roache in Norfolk, Virginia. Buzzy served our country proudly in the U.S. Navy for 5 years, 10 months and 28 days. Following his time in the Navy, Buzzy went to work on the Railroad with Norfolk & Southern and Beltline, retiring as Yard Master with over 40 years of dedicated service. Buzzy loved Cushman Scooters, collecting BB Guns and Knifes. As important as those things were, his love for his family was what he really cherished. Buzzy will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish his memory is: loving wife of 56 years, Patricia Roache; two sons: Kevin Roache; Brian Roache and wife Jennifer; four grandsons: Jeffrey, Tyler, Danny and Benjamin Roache; granddaughter, Tammy Grinels; great-granddaughter, Micha Grinels; and a brother, Brett Smith. He is preceded in death by son, Michael Roache; sister, Ann Stewart; and three “Fur Babies”, NooNoo, WoofWoof and ToTo; and numerous extended family members and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday August 23rd at Buzzy’s Home.

Thank you, Mr. Roache, for your service to our country.

It's so hard to focus on a specific memory, and I have many great ones, because I've known the Roache family for 42 years. As I stop and think about those memories several recurring thoughts come to mind. I can honestly say that I can't recall a time that I ever saw Buzzy get mad, and that says a lot considering some of the things Brian and I got up to when we were kids. BB guns and street lights!!! Buzzy was always a friend. He always had a welcoming smile and a conversation waiting on you. As i look back over the years, it is so easy to see how much he loved his family. He would do anything for them, as long as we learned our lessons. However, the thing i remember the most is that he always had a good joke and certainly loved hearing them in return. The last time i saw him, it was the same as it always had been. A good joke or two and a great conversation. He will certainly be missed!!
