Brian John Aivalotis, 79, USN (ret.), long time resident of Aragona Village, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2020.
Born in Moundsville, West Virginia, he joined the Navy and traveled the world. He “retired” after serving 20 years as a hospital corpsman first class, graduated from ODU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and was an X-Ray technician for the next 32 years. He loved watching baseball and football and was quick to quote stats about both, but especially the Yankees and the Cowboys. He thought rainy days were perfect for napping, reading books and watching movies. His wealth was determined by the love in his heart for his large blended family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Cheryl; four children, Eric (Audrey) Aivalotis, Trina (Richard) Harrell, Shawn (Janice) Havron, and Keith (Meredith) Havron; grandchildren, Crystal, David, Kara, Kyle, Ryann, Matthew, and Hannah; siblings include brother, David (Barbara) Aivalotis of Ohio, sisters, Helen (Milton) Raynor of New York, and Nikki Astipalitis of New Jersey; and his extended family, Julie (Jim) Shackett, Amber (Juan) Russell, and Chelsey (Ally) Buckler. Also left to cherish his memory are many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Edith Aivalotis, and his sister, Barbara Adams.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed and always remembered for his caring heart for others, animals, and his beautiful smile. Brian’s family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to staff members at The Waterford for the loving and wonderful care they gave during his residence there and to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Sentara Norfolk General during his time of need.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 11th, 2020 at 5:00pm with a celebration of life at 7:00pm at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to local animal shelters or the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

It saddens me deeply to read of Mr. Aivalotis' passing. I remember him as a loving animal guardian who honored me by bringing his pets to me for veterinary care for many years. He touched so many lives and will be warmly remembered as a special, loving pet owner and a gentle person. God bless him ! Sincerely, Constance Pozniak, DVM, CVA, CVC, CVHC
