Richard Gerald Knauss, 81, passed away on Wednesday, December 16th, 2020 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Knauss was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan June 12th, 1939 to Carol Richard Knauss & Beatrice Francis (Pritchard). He served our country proudly by serving in the U.S. Navy and retiring as a Senior Chief after 24 years of dedicated service. After retiring from the Navy, Richard worked as the supply manager for Global Associates Navy Inactive Ships, then on to NEXCOM where he retired once again, in 2014. Richard led an exciting life with many adventures. He worked many years for Eckrich Meat Packing Co and served as the head of the teamster’s union. He was an independent logger and restaurant owner. Richard served in the Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes before rejoining the Navy. Mr. Knauss will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed. Mr. Knauss is preceded in death by); Son -Frederick Carol Knauss; Grandson-Fredrick Carol Knauss Jr.
Left to cherish his memory is: two sons, Richard G. Knauss Jr and wife Karen, Ted R. Knauss and wife Deanna; two daughters, Yvonne M Smith and husband Mike, Yvette R Starke and husband Doug; 13 grandchildren: Amber Colbert and husband Jason, Teddie Knauss and wife Stephanie, Jacquelyn Starke; Brittany Hawk and husband Chris, Corbin Floyd, Ben Smith, Jacob Gaffney, Shauri Smith, Claire Starke, Landdun Smith, Lukas Knauss, Cassiday Smith, Jayse Knauss and ten great-grand children
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, December 30th, 2020 at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk.
