Yvonne Stone Slonaker, of Roanoke, VA, passed away in Virginia Beach, on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. Born in 1929 in Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ervin Lloyd Stone and Frances Wieringo Stone. Mrs. Slonaker was predeceased by her devoted husband of 64 years, Lynn Ellsworth Slonaker. Mrs. Slonaker was a graduate of Roanoke College and earned her master’s degree from Radford University. She was passionate about education and dedicated 29 years to teaching in the Roanoke City Public School system. Mrs. Slonaker was a faithful worshiper and active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Roanoke, Va. She served three terms on the Church Council and was a scheduler of lectors and communion assistants for over 20 years. Mrs. Slonaker was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling the world with her husband. She was active with the all-volunteer Showtimers Community Theatre having been cast in numerous productions and serving as a former President of Showtimers. She devoted countless hours researching and publishing family genealogy. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Slonaker is survived by daughters, Catherine Philbin (Peter) of Bethesda, Md., and Lauren Good (Dan) of Virginia Beach, Va., and four grandchildren Georgia, Katrina, and Brooke Philbin, and Riley Good. Interment will be private at Sherwood Memorial Park due to coronavirus restrictions. A memorial service in Mrs. Slonaker’s honor and memory will be announced and held at a future date.
