Joanne Lopez, 54, passed away peacefully January 28th, 2021 in the comfort of her home in Virginia Beach, VA.
“Jo” as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was born August 17th, 1966, in Camarillo, California to Emory and Donna Carney. She lived in Oxnard, California where she met her husband Vic and had their first 2 children Kira and Jarrid. Her husband Vic served our country proudly in the U.S. Navy. In March of 2000, Jo and her family were transferred to Virginia Beach, VA. They built their dream home on a pond with a pool and had their third child Hayden. Joanne was introduced to the “Bunko Babes” and found lifelong friends and support in the sisterhood. Always known to be a kind loving person, her interest and compassion grew for children with special needs. She answered the calling and became a teacher assistant at Ocean Lakes High School for 8 years where she taught life skills to her students. Jo was a passionate mother and caring sister who found great happiness in fostering relationships through love and understanding. Jo will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish her memory is: her husband of 33 years, Vic Lopez; two sons, Jarrid Lopez, Hayden Lopez; daughter, Kira Lopez; father: Emory Carney; two sisters: Diane Fender and husband Jim Fender, Kari Ramon and husband Adrian Ramon; and a brother, Jay Carney and wife Kathy Carney. She is preceded in death by her mother, Donna Carney and a sister, Starla Brown.
A funeral service mass will be held at St. John's the Apostle Catholic Church at 2pm Eastern time, on 02/13/2021.
