Robert Lynn Nixon, 70, passed away on Sunday, February 14th, 2021.
“Sonny” as he was affectionately known by family and friends was born January 9th, 1951 in Norfolk, Virginia to Miles K. and Claudia Nixon. He graduated from Norview High School and then went to N.C. State. After college Sonny went on to proudly serve our country in the U.S. Navy for four years. After leaving the Navy, Sonny became a Master Plumber until his retirement. Those who knew Sonny would tell you he was a good man with a good heart. He was a long-time member of The Carpenters House International Church where his faith and devotion to Jesus Christ truly blossomed. Since he was a child, Sonny enjoyed all sports, but his true love was Baseball. No one knew the game better than him. Sonny loved music. He was an avid harmonica player and loved Marshall Tucker, The Allman Brothers Band, and Jimi Hendrix. Sonny will always be remembered as father, grandfather, brother and friend who would go above and beyond for those he loved. He will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish his memory is: daughter, Andrea N. Davis (Chad); son, Miles A. Nixon (Danielle); sister, Sheryl K. Bennett (Ray); two brothers: Michael Kirkwood and Chuck Kirkwood; and four grandchildren: Miles A. Nixon Jr, Hannah L. Condon, Marissa L. Nixon, and Noah C. Dower. Sonny is preceded in death by the love of his life, Yvonne M. Nixon; father, Robert Lynn Vanderploeg and his beloved mother, Edna E. Kirkwood.
A celebration of life will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 6th, 2021 at The Carpenters House International Church. 3465 W Neck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.
