Frederick Dean Poorman of Norfolk, VA, 91, passed away March 8, 2021. Fred was born in Renovo, PA to the late John and Margaret Poorman. I think of Fred daily and miss our phone chats. Fred was a regular at our church coffee hours on Sunday mornings (before Covid). I am so sad that we were unable to enjoy our coffee time in recent months. But I know Fred is now with The Lord and Kathy and is at peace.

Sorry to hear of Fred's passing. I was a shipmate of Fred's from the time I was on the USS Redfin 9/64-9/66 out of Norfolk, When I reported on board, Fred helped me with my qualification. After I got my dolphins and became Electrician senior controllerman, Many nights Fred in the engine room and my self in the maneuvering room, we recharged the batteries. Rest in peace shipmate.

It is with a heavy heart that I offer my condolences. Fred and I were shipmates for seven and half years aboard the U.S.S. Redfin.
During that time a bond was struck that could never be erased. We didn't always agree but we always laughed. Fred made our submarine go so I could shoot torpedos. My friend and shipmate, you will be missed. I find comfort that Fred has the love of his life back in his arms, Cathy his bride of 64 years. I know that our shipmates that had predecease us were in heaven to greet Fred when he arrived and they rejoiced. Fair winds and following seas. Sailor rest your oar, you are home.
