On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in the quiet of the afternoon, the Lord came and carried our sweet sister Carolyn home to heaven to be with him.

Mrs. James was a long-time resident of Chesapeake (Portlock area), Virginia. Carolyn was a long-time member of Blessed Hope Chapel in Chesapeake, Virginia. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory: children, Evelyn Marrazzo (Pat), Laura Miller, (Steve), and JoAnn Riddick (Scotty); stepdaughters, Sharon and Sheryl James; step-son Ronald Troyer; parents, Bennie and Edna Ashley; three sisters: Edna Valentin, Sandy Cashwell, Elizabeth Freeman, brother, Benny Ross Ashley; 19 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and a best friend and sidekick, Renee’ Cherry. She is predeceased by her loving husband, George James and a step-daughter, Shelia Strickland.

In this time of heavy hearts and sorrow, please remember that Carolyn’s work on earth is done, her race is finally run, and her heavenly crown has been won.

It is so hard to have to write this...I so wish to be selfish and still have mom with me here on earth but I am happy that she is suffering no more and she is with Joe James and is so unreal not to see mom coming and going all the time with the great grandchildren or her on the go to help people out when they need it...the trips to Saluda will be so different now and I don't have that person to take the baked beans...Laura tells me I need to be the strong one for her but ,even though I have only known mom for 8 1/2 years, she has had such a huge impact on me and it has been so hard not to cry when talking about mom...I know that Kyle was waiting for her on the other side saying it was his turn now we all love you so much mom and we all miss you dearly

I have so many memories about double- dating, learning to drive, dirt bike accidents , fighting, secrets held over heads in exchange for chores getting done. Broken 💔 hearts, in love with flavor of the month. Living with you and precious baby girls . Our jealousies and shared loves. The "GREAT ESKIMO STUFFY CAPER" The losses we suffered together and joys. You are forever in my heart and memories. While my heart breaks for your babies and me, it rejoices for you. I'm holding you to that guardian angel gig, or else when I get there we're gonna rumble sister.
